The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) has selected a SUNY Geneseo student-faculty research mentor team for the 2024 advocacy program Scholars Transforming Through Research (STR).

The STR program provides a multi-month program aimed at developing their communication and advocacy skills, empowering them to convey the power of the high-impact practices of undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative inquiry experience to diverse stakeholder groups. CUR focuses on giving a voice to undergraduate research by learning through doing. It provides connections to a multitude of campuses and government agencies, all while promoting networking and professional growth in its community. This is the STR program’s third year—and Geneseo’s third year participating.

Mentor/mentee teams were selected based on their excellence in undergraduate research and their understanding of the importance of advocating for this high-impact practice. The Geneseo team is composed of Addie Balogun '27, of Huntington Station, NY, a French and communication double major, along with Samuel Scamardo '27, a French and adolescence education major who is minoring in history and anthropology, from Schenectady, NY, and their faculty and research mentor Professor Kodjo Adabra, French and Francophone Studies.

This year’s 63 STR teams represent 57 institutions from 22 states, comprising 65 campus representatives and 146 undergraduate researchers.
