Mary C. Toale, Ed. D.
Mary C. Toale, Ed.D., is the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at SUNY Geneseo. Dr. Toale is a first-generation, Pell recipient, two sport college student-athlete with more than 25 years of teaching, service, and leadership in higher education. An advocate for the transformative power of higher education and a collaborative strategic planner, she has led and advanced strategic initiatives to advance equity centered approaches to the holistic development of students, faculty and staff, increase institutional effectiveness, and enhance shared governance and collaboration.
Dr. Toale has been recognized for her excellence in teaching and service; published scholarly work; presented scholarly and pedagogical topics at state, regional, and national conferences; served on editorial review boards for peer-reviewed scholarly journals; and served her communities. She previously served in executive leadership roles at SUNY Oswego, including Deputy to the President for Strategy and Planning and Officer in Charge, as well as department chair in interim leadership positions across the university. In addition, she served on the faculty and in leadership roles at West Virginia Wesleyan College and Baldwin Wallace University.
Dr. Toale earned her doctoral degree in instructional communication and master’s degree in communication theory and research from West Virginia University and a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in secondary mathematics education from West Virginia Wesleyan College.
