FAQ about Admission to Geneseo

Geneseo is located 25 minutes south of Rochester, NY, in rural Livingston County. It’s a short 75-minute drive to Buffalo, NY, and a 90-minute drive to Syracuse, NY.

Test optional means that students are NOT required to submit standardized test scores (SAT, ACT) as part of their application package. Test scores are NOT mandatory to gain admission to Geneseo.

The Office of Admissions has a long history of evaluating students' potential for success using a holistic approach that includes grades, the program of study, exam scores (including Regents, AP, IB), academic achievements, co-curricular activities, and other measures.

You can apply anytime! The first deadline (early action) is November 15.

Geneseo awards up to 30 credit hours for examinations such as the Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB). While each academic department determines the minimum test score required for academic credit in a particular subject, three hours of elective credit are guaranteed for general elective courses with scores of three or above for AP courses and four above for IB courses.

Official transcripts or reports of your scores must be sent to the Geneseo Admissions Office to receive credit. At your request, Geneseo will send you an estimate of transfer credit; an official evaluation will be available when you register for classes. More details can be found on our pre-college website. 

Applying for financial aid starts with filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can find all the information on our financial aid website.

Health Services offers basic primary medical and counseling care to Geneseo students similar to the services you have received from your primary care provider at home. Most services are covered by your Student Health Fee.

Ninety percent of our faculty and instructors hold a PhD or other terminal degree. Class sizes are small with a 1:18 faculty to student ratio.
