Academic Advising - Overview

• Whether you are on campus or away from Geneseo, your advisor still wants to meet with you

Academic Advising at Geneseo begins with a strong tradition of faculty advising: each student is assigned a faculty member to meet with to discuss their course of study, their academic interests, and their goals after graduating. 

New students will see their faculty advisor's name added to their Knightweb Information by the second week of the semester.  All students are encouraged to meet with their faculty advisor to plan their next semester schedule, but new transfer and first-year students are required to meet with their advisors.  Advising holds are placed in October.  You won't be able to register for classes until your "advising hold" has been lifted by your advisor.

Geneseo is onboarding a new way to schedule advising appointments through Navigate Campus. If your faculty advisor uses this system, you will receive an invitation to schedule an appointment.  Otherwise, follow the advisor's directions for signing up for advisement.

The Academic Planning and Advising Office (DAPA) is already using the Navigate Campus system.  To see a general advisor (this is not instead of meeting with your faculty advisor) follow the "schedule an appointment" directions and link.  DAPA advisors can answer questions about the curriculum and completing your degree.

Academic Peer Mentors (APMs) will also be able to help you with registration questions.  Watch for their workshops on using Degree Works and setting up a "Plan Ahead" schedule.  You can find more information about the Academic Peer Mentor Program on the APM website.
