Department of English
As an English major at Geneseo, you'll gain an understanding of imaginative and cultural processes and products that is broad, deep, and contextually rich. Our program will help you develop skills and knowledge necessary for an examined life, a successful career, and responsible membership in a global society.
You can choose between tracks in literature and creative writing. You can also opt for our program in Comparative Literature.
With a degree in English, you'll have many career and grad school options. Take a look at what some of our alums say they've done with their degrees.
If you're in a major other than English, you can pursue your love of literature and culture in our English minor. (Double-majors welcome, too!) Majors and non-majors alike can minor in Film Studies or one of the interdisciplinary programs to which English contributes, such as American Studies, Black Studies, Medieval Studies, Native American Studies, and Women's and Gender Studies. Also available to all students is the integrative curricular microcredential in Performance as Social Change.
If you're an Education major interested in teaching grades K-6, our concentration in English is your path to certification while focusing on content that you love. Interested in teaching middle school or high school? Major in English and add a certification in Adolescence Education.
