Accelerated B.A./M.A. Program
In partnership with Claremont Graduate University in California, the Department of History offers an accelerated Bachelor's/Master’s Program in History or in Cultural Studies with a concentration in Museum Studies. This program allows students to build on the excellent liberal arts education at Geneseo while creating a faster path to an M.A. at a well-regarded graduate institution. This is a unique program, unlike anything else that exists in the entire SUNY system.
How it Works
Geneseo students from any major may count twelve credits from their senior year coursework towards the 40-unit M.A. program at CGU. This means that the Claremont program can be completed quicker than the normal two years, and as fast as a single year.
The accelerated BA/MA program with Claremont Graduate University provides those students interested in pursuing a career in public history and in historical and art museums with an avenue to further their studies and position themselves well for these exciting positions. Claremont Graduate University has working relationships with museums throughout Southern California, particularly in the greater Los Angeles area, and can offer students unparalleled opportunities and experiences in some of the finest museums in the world.
Claremont has a strong track record of placing its graduates in museums across the country and will provide financial support for Geneseo students admitted to the program.
How to Apply
Interested students should consult with Professor Oberg prior to the beginning of their senior year. The Co-Directors of the program will review and jointly pre-approve the courses selected for individual student programs.
