Whitney Brown: Clinical Psychology

Research Interests

  • How college students regulate (manage) their emotions and to what extent they use substances for this purpose. 
  • This lab examines the use of cannabis and alcohol, their simultaneous use, and the consequences of college students' substance use.
  •  Dr. Brown is also interested in emotional dysregulation, including difficulties identifying and describing emotions.

Student Involvement

  • Students may participate in setting up the lab space, performing literature reviews, and other support tasks. 
  • Long-term research assistants will participate in all aspects of the research process, including presenting at regional or national conferences. 

Recruitment Opportunities

  • Dr. Brown is recruiting 1-4 students for Fall 2025.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • First-year and sophomore standing.
  • Three-semester commitment.
  • Students must have completed or be currently enrolled in PSYC 251 and PSYC 250.
  • Conscientious, organized, motivated, intellectually curious, works well with others, strong writer, and computer savvy.
  • Interested in clinical psychology, social work, or a related field.

  • Rising sophomores and juniors may apply to join the lab in Spring 2025.
